Bill Thorness with Dominic Smith

Join us at the Phinney Center on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, where Bill Thorness will discuss his family memoir, All Roads Lead to Rome: Searching for the End of My Father’s War. Retracing World War II’s Italian campaigns, Thorness revisits his commando father’s battlefields and steps into shoes to finish the walk into Rome his father was denied. It is part travelogue, part history, and part memoir about the ravages of war. Bill will be in conversation about his book, and about the legacy of World War II in Italy, with Seattle novelist Dominic Smith, author most recently of Return to Valetto, the story of a historian unearthing his family’s wartime secrets in a nearly abandoned Umbrian village. This event will be held at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, in Room 6 of the Blue (upper) Building, at 7 pm.
